| What is the lifespan of high power LEDs? | |
| LED manufacturers state that LEDs have a lifespan of 50,000+ and some claim up to 100,000. Using an average of 4,100 hours of darkness per year, LEDs would last over 12 years. |
| What are the energy savings of LED Street Lights? | |
| High power LED Street Lights can save 50% to 70% or more over High Pressure Sodium (HPS) street lights depending on the LED fixture used to replace the HPS light. Energy use is greater than just the wattage per fixture. HPS lamps use a ballast that can use an additional 10% to 15% of the HPS wattage. Other energy that should be considered includes line loss (6%) and transformer loss (3%). |
| Are LED Street Lights as bright as HPS lights? | |
| This is a difficult question to answer because there are many parts of the question to consider. Traditional street lights have been measured by lumens, foot candles and other various means. LEDs do not put out as many lumens per watt as HPS however, that should not be the only or main criteria. LEDs are directional and efficient use of lighting. LEDs can produce a brighter, daylight or natural looking light that is pleasing and improves security. HPS lamps flood the area with an amber colored light, is inefficient and considered poor color rendering. Eco Street Lighting has the only know LED Street Light that meets DOT minimum requirements for highway lighting. Many Cities also adopt this requirement for their major arterial roadways. LED lights do not give off any Ultra Violet Light or contain harmful materials such as mercury. |
| Are LEDs a fragile as HPS or other lighting? | |
| LEDs are very durable and will not break with jarring. LED Street Lights are sturdy but utilizes a glass lens that could break if dropped. |
| What voltage do LEDs use? | |
| Eco Street Lighting’s LED Street Lights can automatically adjust to use 85 to 266 volts. |
| What are important factors when considering LED Street Lights? | |
|
1. Lighting disbursement and LED power 2. Heat displacement design 3. Lighting Veilence (preventing glare) 4. Cost Meeting minimum DOT lighting requirements are important for major arterial roadways. Heat Sinking design is imperative for long lasting LED lights. Reducing light pollution or light trespass should be considered in the LED fixture design. Cost is always important to be about to replace more lights saving more energy. |
| What are my electrical rates in my part of the country? | |
| The Energy Information Administration which is part of the US government keeps track of this information. There web site is: http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/electricity/epm/table5_6_a.html |
| What is the CO2 savings by switching to LED Street Lights? | |
| The amount of CO2 savings can be calculated using the calculator on www.ecostreetlighting.com/howMuch.php#. Another site is sponsored by the US EPA is www.epa.gov/cleanenergy/energy-resources/calculator.html. |
